The High School Application Process
The high-school application process is an exciting one, but can also be quite daunting. However, at High Point Academy, we work with students and parents every step of the way. Mrs. Zeiss works closely with the students in preparation for all parts of the process. The students start the academic school year with presentations from admissions directors and students from many of the local private high schools. In addition, our students have the opportunity to visit high schools for tours and Open Houses. Mrs. Zeiss works with the students practicing interview skills and developing strong personal-essay writing. In the fall during study hall sessions, Mrs. Zeiss offers interested 8th graders an optional test prep course. Students who choose to take this course learn strategies for success on the entrance exams for high schools, including the High School Entrance Exam (HSPT) and the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Students engage in lessons, practice exercises, self-correcting, and practice tests. Finally, Mrs. Zeiss provides counseling to families about their high school choices and guides families through turning in the necessary documents for teacher recommendations and transcript release forms. Even though this process appears intimidating at first, our students and parents navigate the process successfully and end the process with exciting choices about their future.
