As a second grader at High Point Academy in 2002, Tomi Okuno thought she might grow up to be a "children's book illustrator or teacher." Now twenty-five, she is both amused and thrilled to be fulfilling her childhood prediction. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration, Tomi earned a provisional teaching credential from the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Her year-long stint as a substitute teacher in the South Pasadena and San Gabriel Unified School Districts solidified her passion for primary education. Outside of school, Ms. Okuno enjoys volunteering at church and in the Los Angeles Little Tokyo neighborhood. You might also find her making zany drawings of people and animals in her spare time.
