Steps Toward Admissions
Kindergarten Admissions
Grades 1 – 8 Admissions
Requirements for Admissions
The educational goals of High Point Academy are to awaken in each child the joy of learning and to give that child an education in depth through a firm grasp of learning skills and basic knowledge. It is our goal to enable each child to think logically, communicate thoughtfully, build self-confidence, and develop the ability and desire to pursue and organize knowledge through his or her lifetime.
The admissions procedure is designed to provide you with information about our school, while we learn as much as possible about your child. To this end our school offers three Open Houses.
Steps Toward Admissions
- Applications for January testing are accepted no earlier than the preceding August 1.
- Applicants are not given any priority preference as to when the application was accepted by the admissions office.
- Before any application will be considered, all appropriate forms and documents must be completed and returned to the admissions office.
- The application deadline for all grades is the Friday of the second full week in January.
- All applications must be accompanied by a ninety dollar ($90), non-refundable, application fee.
- The success of each student is a priority at High Point Academy; it is therefore the policy of the school to assess the academic readiness and developmental skills of each applicant.
- Early in February, all applications are reviewed based on examination scores, school transcripts, and recommendations. At this time, interviews and classroom visits may be requested for students applying for first through eighth grade. These procedures determine those students to be accepted, placed in the wait pool, or not accepted.
- Students in the wait pool will be notified if and when openings occur. Any candidates not wishing to remain in this pool should notify the Admissions Director as soon as that decision has been made.
- A non-refundable deposit is required upon acceptance of the contract. The business office will bill you in July for the remainder of the tuition fee.
Kindergarten Admissions
- We actively seek children who are sufficiently mature to benefit from our academic kindergarten program.
- Kindergarten candidates must be five years of age by September 1 of the year they will begin school.
- It is very highly recommended that all parents attend a classroom visitation without their child before screening. Call the school for an appointment for this visit.
- All candidates for kindergarten must take part in the Integrated Learning Solutions screening process. (www.integratedlearningsolutions.org)
- In addition, High Point Academy screenings are held in groups of eight children in the kindergarten room on weekdays in January and early February. After your application is received, notification will be sent to you indicating the date of your screening. All screenings start at 2:15 PM and usually are completed by 3:30 PM.
- During the screening process, parents will have a short interview with a High Point administrator and receive a recommendation form to be given to their child’s pre-school teacher.
- We observe students during a variety of tasks, watching for traits necessary for confident and successful growth in our program. The ability to listen, focus attention, communicate, interact socially, and demonstrate large and small muscle development and eye-hand coordination are among the areas that are evaluated. No preparation is necessary, or appropriate, for this evaluation.
Grades 1 – 8 Admissions
High Point Academy is seeking candidates who are qualified to participate in and benefit from an accelerated academic program. We look for students who will be able to make significant contributions to the High Point community through their academic skills, creative talents, and athletic abilities.
Requirements for admissions include the following:
- An application form with the non-refundable application fee
- Two teacher recommendation forms
- All applicants must take an entrance exam. First through fourth grade applicants must take the Elementary Admissions Screening on January 28, 2012 at Crestview Preparatory School in La Canada or February 4, 2012 at Chandler School in Pasadena. Please click here for the registration form. The registration forms are also available in the HPA Admissions Packets.
- Fifth through eighth grade applicants must take the Independent Schools Entrance Exam (ISEE). To register for the ISEE go to www.ISEETEST.ORG or pick up the materials in the school office.
- School transcripts including grades and standardized test scores
- In June, second semester grades should be sent to High Point Academy as acceptance is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the current year.

It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, or sexual orientation in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, financial aid programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
