Adrenaline rushing, hearts beating, the music is the only thing on their minds.  This isn’t your ordinary Guitar Hero 3, this is Garage Band 2008.
On May 9th, High Point hosts its annual Garage Band event on the lower sports field.  Local teenage bands come out to compete for the votes of an excited audience that includes junior high students from fifteen different nearby schools.  The grand prize that the winning band receives is a scholarship to a music summer camp and MP3 music players.
Last year’s Garage Band was a huge success.  Five different bands played their hearts out with friends and families there for support.  A young band called Vendetta won the competition.  Nicky B., an 8th grade student from High Point and lead guitarist of Vendetta, was extremely happy to win, and he's excited to play again this year.
“It was really cool to play last year.  I had a great time, and to know that people voted for us was pretty tight,” says Nicky B.
For those that aren’t playing in a band, many are eager to be able to hang out and have a great time with their friends.
“I’m really looking forward to it, especially seeing all of my friends from other schools,” says Alex G.
Garage Band is not only a great social event, but for many young and undiscovered bands, it’s the way for them to get noticed.  They’ll play their best, and hope that they win the satisfaction of the viewers.
“I feel that voting is the coolest part.  I’m going to vote for the band with the best music and the most personality,” says Madison W.
The hardworking team behind this big event is the HPA student council.  They have been actively planning this event since the beginning of the school year.  It’s been a really successful event in past years and is not expected to disappoint this time.
“Although last year’s Garage Band was great, I think that this year’s Garage Band will be bigger and better because there are going to be more bands and hopefully more people,” says Alex G.
This occasion will be an event full of exciting rock music, musical and talented band players, and curious teens waiting to see which band will lay it all on the line and become the winner of Garage Band 2008. --Audrey C. and Kelly D.
