The past High Point sports year has been a very successful one with the school having achieved many accomplishments in various sports, including soccer and track.  Many students agree we are improving in sports while others still say we are on a downhill track in our sports competitions.
Is the High Point sports program getting better or worse?  If one were to look at the scores of the past sports year, one would see we are doing great and we have achieved new heights that our school has never seen before.  Though we have had a positive outcome in most of our sports this past year, some students would disagree with the fact that we have actually improved over past sports years.
The idea that our sports teams have done poorly this year may be associated with the fact that we have had fewer games here due to construction, and, therefore, the students not on sports teams have had less of a chance to see our teams shine as they did.  It may also be related to the fact that this year's junior high class has been less oriented towards sports.
Other reasons for the idea of a declining High Point sports program may be connected to the less successful sports teams such as football, which was the only High Point team with no wins.
This year the High Point sports program also implemented a new sports practice program that most students thought made a positive difference in our teams.
"Yes, the new practice schedule actually has helped.  We had more practices," said sports team member Charlie H.
One of our more successful sports teams was the boys soccer team which has been doing well over the past few years.  This year their wins outnumbered their losses, three to two, which is good by anyone's standards, but another important fact about this sports team and others is that it is fun.  These sports teams allow students to get together, have fun, and learn more about each other's talents.

Another High Point team that has done well this year is the track team which has out-shown many of the other track teams from past years.  The big winners of the track team were the competitors on the the B-Girls team.  This team must have been made of an extraordinary batch of athletes because they took first place at the Chandler Invitational, the Poly Invitational, and our own High Point Invitational.  The team far exceeded the performance of teams in past years and are truly a virtue to our school.

The B-Boys team was also triumphant at our own track meet grabbing the first place trophy.  Other outstanding accomplishments of our track team occurred where our A-Boys team came in first place at the Poly meet and second place in the league track meet which is great compared to past years.
High Point has a growing sports program that has only begun to excel in the various sports and will continue to overcome obstacles along the way as they begin to win more.  We have had many sports teams this year that have done very well and will continue to do well in the future as other sports join them in their triumph, not only in winning but also in having fun and learning more.  Though the future of the sports program may be a mystery, it was exceptional this year. -- Landon P.
